Dongfeng Honda’s Lingxi is more than just a new electric vehicle (EV)—it’s a testament to the brand’s strategic pivot toward younger, tech-savvy consumers in China. Launched in 2023, Lingxi aims to carve out its own place in the electrified future, distinct from Honda’s existing e:NS lineup.


1. Brand and Strategy: Tailored for Tomorrow

Honda’s Lingxi sub-brand debuted in September 2023 with the revealing of the Lingxi L concept at the Guangzhou Auto Show. This new brand is positioned for affordability, innovation, and appeal to younger buyers.

Led by a youthful R&D team, Lingxi symbolizes Honda’s dedication to fresh design philosophies and intelligent technologies, setting the stage for a revitalized joint venture strategy in China.


2. Design and Aesthetics: A Polyhedral Vision

Lingxi’s design is bold and angular—a departure from rounded silhouettes prevalent in EVs. The polyhedral lines give it an angular, futuristic look, paired with a “tri‑wing” headlamp design and a “swift bird” logo that evoke speed and loftiness.

The production-ready Lingxi L closely mirrors its concept origins, boasting expressive lines and sharp accents that resemble some of Hyundai’s avant-garde styling—yet remain approachable to mainstream users.


3. Dimensions: Compact Yet Roomy

As a mid-size sedan, the Lingxi L measures:

  • Length: 4,830 mm
  • Width: 1,845 mm
  • Height: 1,503 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,731 mm
    These dimensions are nearly identical to the Honda Civic’s size—a familiar footprint for many consumers.

4. Performance and Range: Balanced and Efficient

Under the hood, the Lingxi L is powered by a front-mounted single electric motor delivering 160 kW (215 hp) and 310 Nm of torque. It hits 0–100 km/h in around 6.9 seconds, with a top speed capped at 160 km/h.

Energy is supplied by a 59.22 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, manufactured by BYD, offering a CLTC range of approximately 520 km, with an efficiency of 12.9 kWh per 100 km.


5. Tech-Rich Interior: Five Screens and Smart Immersion

Inside, the Lingxi L introduces a high-tech digital cockpit with five screens:

  • Dual side screens for digital rearview camera feeds
  • Digital cluster for the driver
  • Central infotainment display (12.3″)
  • Passenger entertainment screen
  • A HUD adds to the immersive experience.

This setup, branded as “Lingxi SPACE” intelligent cabin, is powered by a rich ecosystem of 13 connected apps, 14 local apps, 20 mini‑programs, and voice control, aiming to redefine in-car interaction.


6. Intelligent Safety: Eyes Everywhere

The Lingxi L doesn’t skimp on safety and driver assistance:

  • Lingxi DRIVE system incorporates features like adaptive cruise control, automatic parking, 360° panoramic view, transparent chassis view, and lane-keeping assist among other advanced aids.

Additional safety includes camera-based virtual mirror systems (digital exterior mirrors linked to dashboard screens), enhancing visibility and aerodynamics.


7. Market Position: Affordable Innovation

Strategically priced at RMB 129,800 (~USD 18,500), the Lingxi L posits itself as a formidable value proposition against comparable EVs like BYD’s Qin Plus EV.

This pricing, combined with advanced tech, aims to balance accessibility and ambition—targeting the growth-hungry Chinese EV market with youth, affordability, and flair.


8. Toward an Electrified Future

Lingxi is part of Dongfeng Honda’s larger push toward electrification. They’ve pledged:

  • >50% electrified lineup by 2025
  • No new combustion model launches post-2027
  • 10+ pure electric models by 2030.

A dedicated EV plant in Wuhan has been launched, with Lingxi L as its inaugural model—underscoring Honda’s renewed electrified intent in China.
